
eDiscovery – Information Governance in a Big Data World
On Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 2:00 (ET) Marc Portner, Principal Consultant at Innovative Development participated in an interactive webinar presentation on Information Governance in a Big Data World. This was organised by the TASA Group, with Marc presenting in conjunction with Shawn Huston and Michael Hayes. A recording of this session is available below.
This presentation discussed the pitfalls of ignoring a proactive data management strategy. The participants discussed the importance of having a data management strategy in place and areas that need to be covered within the strategy. Other topics covered included Mobile (BYOD) and Cloud Concerns, use of personal devices, as well as data assessment during litigation and investigation.
The presenters also included discussion of Cross Border Information Governance, the things to be aware of when approaching data policies across International borders and included case law examples.
Marc S. Portner is a principle consultant at Innovative Development, a firm that provides Information Governance and e-Discovery services to clients, including Merck, AstraZeneca and Shire Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Portner provides account management and consulting services to clients across multiple industries. He has developed processes and operational models in support of litigation demand.
Shawn P. Huston is CEO of Legal Support Partners, a firm that offers information management to legal firms. Mr. Huston has worked in operations, sales and executive management with both small and large litigation support providers.
Over the years, he has worked on a number of high-profile cases including Enron and Worldcom civil and criminal litigation, asbestos and product liability class actions, government security issues, multi-billion dollar second requests, major SEC fraud investigations and thousands of other civil and criminal cases of all magnitudes.
Michael B. Hayes is a partner in the Litigation Department and co-chair of the firm’s Electronic Discovery practice. Mr. Hayes’ practice concentrates on commercial litigation, government and corporate investigations with a particular focus in the area of pharmaceuticals and related life sciences. He is frequently called upon by clients and colleagues to provide legal expertise, consultation and recommendations concerning electronic discovery issues. Mr. Hayes is a frequent speaker and writer on cutting-edge legal issues and technologies in electronic discovery, and takes great pride in safely and successfully navigating clients through the discovery process.
